For some reason, William thought it would be REALLY funny if he just started drugging Michael's dinner, drove him to this faucility, and tormented him with nightmares only to drug him AGAIN, drive him home, and then gaslight Michael into thinking it was a dream. This continued for about 5 years every other night before William got bored and stopped. Michael was left with a drug problem, insomnia, and genuine nightmares resembling what he had been subjected to. He's fine though don't worry about it.
